flesh is grass 01 and flesh is grass 02 sees two patches of accumulated paper sculptures atop wooden platforms. Though adopting the shapes and forms of grass, images of the artist’s own skin are printed on the paper—creating small fields of human grass. The work is part of a larger series that imagines a surreal garden, where various plant species are composed using human anatomies.
In reinterpreting the morphologies of non-human species through our own relationships with our bodies, the series mediates our processes of identification (and dis-identification) with the world around us—reflecting an urge to connect to the other.
